Great Big Cosmic

Thanks to all who came out to the Indie Memphis Film Festival last weekend to celebrate the release of the video for "Great Big Cosmic" from our forthcoming release The Central Standards' Folly. For those who couldn't make it due to prior plans or geography, we have employed a technology called YouTube to make it possible for you to view right there in front of your own computer screen. Have you kids heard about this crazy new-fangled thing? We're always on the cutting edge. Ha! Enjoy!!

Our Moment in the "Sun"

We're pleased to announce that our David Hershey-directed video for "Great Big Cosmic" (which will appear on our new album) has been selected for the Live from Memphis music video showcase at next weekend's Indie Memphis Film Festival! The showcase starts at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 at Malco's Studio on the Square.

We shot the video during our "Great Big Cosmic" session at Sun Studio on January 8, 2007. David took our (very!) raw footage and the final mix of the song and put together a fast-paced performance video that complements the song quite well. As you may have already gathered, that's a still shot from the video at the top of this post. David is a hugely talented, award-winning television promotions guru (Washington D.C., Dallas), who just recently accepted a job as VP of Creative at one of the leading production companies in Los Angeles, Edge Creative. He's also a great friend.

We hope you'll come check out David's fine work next weekend, while enjoying a nice little preview of The Central Standards' Folly!

Singing You a Song

Many thanks to Matthew O. for hooking us up with a great Saturday night gig at his place of employment, Patrick's Steak and Spirits in East Memphis. It was a beautiful evening to sing some songs outdoors. Matt joined us on lead guitar for more than half of our set. Thanks, buddy! No official set list to post, as much of the evening was improvised, though highlights included a wonderfully messy version of "Dead Flowers" (see photo above).

Our friend, Emily Shipp, did a 30-minute set, as well. She was fantastic, playing some really cool covers and a great original tune, as well. Be on the lookout for this very talented young lady!

In other news, we are, at long last, putting the finishing touches on our third album The Central Standards' Folly. It includes 14 brand new Standard originals, about half of which we've been playing live the last couple of years. We hope to have it out by Thanksgiving (or so!). Keep an eye out for track listing, CD release details and a sample or two. Yay!!!
