A Rain-Soaked Day and a Chilly Breeze

It's what we've come to expect from the Overton Square Crawfish Festival--a fantastic event that tends to get sabotaged by Mother Nature. Mid-afternoon, I ran into a fellow in the restroom who said that, for the first eleven or so years of Crawfish Fest, the weather was perfect. Clearly, things have changed! I'm not usually one to complain about weather, but it sure didn't feel like Memphis in April.

Nontheless, we had a great time, supporting the event and this year's battle of Rock 103 "Great Unsigned" bands. Be sure to keep an eye out for Dova Grove and Early Maxwell--two great young bands, who I know you'll be hearing more about. As always, many thanks to Dennis, Ric and Luca for continuing to support local music. We played a 40-minute set that was a mix of Standard new, almost new, semi-new, old and ancient songs. They sounded like this:
PERPETUAL AFTERNOON
SINCE I'VE BEEN GONE
SO MUCH CLEARER
HEAVYWEIGHT
BACK FROM LITTLE ROCK
MY FRIENDS TOO
WHAT THEY MEAN
GREAT BIG COSMIC
IN THE BOOKS
KEEPING STILL

We look forward to seeing all of you locals next Sunday, April 29 at Neil's in Midtown for the official release of Vexar Entertainment's St. Jude Target House Benefit CD. We'll be playing a set at around 2:30 p.m. We've contributed "Back from Little Rock" to the project. As you may recall, we recorded the song at Memphis Independent in December of last year. It's a great track, but for now, it's ONLY available on this CD! Support the cause!!
